| 1 cup unsalted butter, softened 2/3 cup powdered sugar ½ teaspoon vanilla ¼ teaspoon salt 2 cups flour

Cream butter and sugar, then add the vanilla. Mix the flour and salt into the creamed butter mixture. Knead the dough for a smooth texture. Roll the dough out into a cord the diameter of a quarter. (fig.2) Using a bench knife portion dough. |

Roll into a ball and firmly press into the pan prick the back of the cookies to aid in the release of steam. (fig.3) |

Bake 350ºF until golden. Remove cookies from warm pan and cool on cooling rack. (fig.4) |
